Dyslexia Courses
Early intervention is crucial in supporting individuals with dyslexia, and the right training can make all the difference. At Specialist Teacher Training, we offer an internationally accredited dyslexia training course designed to equip educators and specialists with the skills to deliver targeted, effective support. We have designed the content so that you have the option to follow either Level 3, 5 and 7 full programmes or the top up programme. The programmes are delivered via an online platform with tutor live sessions and support. All courses are accedited by OCN 4 Learning and the British Dyslexia Association.
The Level 3 course is comprised of 1 module and students will have 6 months to complete the course.
The Level 5 course is comprised of 2 modules and students will have 1 year to complete the course. This Level 5 certificate holds BDA Accredited Teacher/Accredited Practitioner (BDA ATS/APS) accreditation. This means that candidates who have successfully passed the Level 5 certificate can apply to the BDA for ATS or APS status and professional membership.
As well as the full level 7 and top up level 7 there are also other various ways to enter the course using Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) we are offering two conversion courses from September 2025
The Level 7 full course comprises 4 modules, students will have 2 years to complete this course. This Level 7 holds the BDA Associate Member of the British Dyslexia Association (AMBDA), and this indicates a high standard of professional competence in both diagnostic assessment and teaching. This means that candidates who have successfully passed the Level 7 course can apply to the BDA for (AMBDA), (AMBDA FE/HE) and professional membership.
The Level 7 top-up is for people who already have a Level 5 qualification in Dyslexia and have Accredited Teacher/Practitioner in Dyslexia and will exempt students from Module 1 and 2. Students will have 12 months to complete this course. This Level 7 holds the BDA Associate Member of the British Dyslexia Association (AMBDA), and this indicates a high standard of professional competence in both diagnostic assessment and teaching. This means that candidates who have successfully passed the Level 7 course can apply to the BDA for (AMBDA), (AMBDA FE/HE) and professional membership.
Level 7 (RPL) conversion 1 is for people who already have level 5 in dyslexia, an Associate Member British Dyslexia Association (AMBDA) qualification in Dyscalculia and have an APC. Students will have 12 months to complete this course. This Level 7 holds the BDA Associate Member of the British Dyslexia Association (AMBDA), and this indicates a high standard of professional competence in both diagnostic assessment and teaching. This means that candidates who have successfully passed the Level 7 course can apply to the BDA for (AMBDA), (AMBDA FE/HE) and professional membership.
Level 7 (RPL) conversion 2 is for people who already have an Associate Member British Dyslexia Association (AMBDA) qualification in Dyscalculia and have an APC. Students will have 18 months to complete this course. This Level 7 holds the BDA Associate Member of the British Dyslexia Association (AMBDA), and this indicates a high standard of professional competence in both diagnostic assessment and teaching. This means that candidates who have successfully passed the Level 7 course can apply to the BDA for (AMBDA), (AMBDA FE/HE) and professional membership.
The courses are all accreditated by the British Dyslexia Association.
The course has been written by Kate Davies and will be delivered by Kate or one of her team, with guest lectures from a range of experts in the field.
Kate has over 25 years of experience in education and is a leading voice in inclusion. As a Lecturer in Inclusion at Edge Hill University, she co-developed the PGCert in Dyslexia and both the PGCert and PGDip in Dyscalculia. Kate was one of the first lecturers in the UK to deliver a dedicated Dyscalculia course and has since trained specialist SpLD teachers across the UK and internationally, helping to raise standards in support for neurodiverse learners worldwide.
